How to approve Claude Code from your phone
Updated
Short answer: Start Remote Control (claude --remote-control, or /remote-control in a running session), open the session in the Claude app's Code tab, and turn on “Push when actions required” in /config so your phone tells you when it's waiting. To be asked less often, use auto mode or allow the commands you trust in /permissions. If Slack is already on your phone, Lowtide can post approvals to your Slack DM with yourself, where yes, no or an option's number answers them.
A Claude Code session doesn't stop when you leave your desk; it stops the first time it needs you. An approval for a command or a question about which way to go can hold up an hour of work until you're back. You don't have to be back.
1. Remote Control: the session on your phone
Remote Control connects the Claude app on iPhone or Android, or claude.ai/code, to a Claude Code session running on your computer; the code and files stay on the computer. Start it with claude --remote-control, or /remote-control in a session that's already open, or turn on “Enable Remote Control for all sessions” in /config. On your phone, open the Code tab and pick the session. Claude Code keeps permission prompts and questions open until they're answered, so a session waiting on you is still waiting when you get there.
- It needs a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, signed in with the same account on both; on Team and Enterprise, an owner turns it on.
- Your computer has to stay on, with the session running.
claude --remote-control2. Get a push when it needs you
With Remote Control on, /config has two switches: “Push when actions required”, for permission prompts and questions, and “Push when Claude decides”, for moments like a long task finishing. Pushes are skipped while you're typing in that terminal, and Focus modes on your phone can hold them back.
3. Be asked less often
- Auto mode has a model review each action instead of asking you; Anthropic notes it “reduces permission prompts but does not guarantee safety.”
- acceptEdits lets file edits and common file commands in the project run without asking.
- /permissions shows the commands you've allowed and lets you add more; “Yes, and don't ask again” on a prompt saves one as you go.
- Questions Claude asks you always wait for an answer; no mode answers them for you.
4. Answer it in Slack
If Slack is the app you check on your phone anyway, Lowtide can bring approvals there. With “Slack when you're away” on (Settings → Your phone), after a minute and a half away from your Mac it posts what Claude Code is asking to your Slack DM with yourself; reply in its thread with yes, no or an option's number. Whichever answer comes first counts: the terminal, Lowtide on the Mac, or Slack. Lowtide posts as you, so Slack doesn't notify you about it: pair it with Claude's push, or look in Slack when you're away.
Questions people ask
Can I approve Claude Code permission prompts from my phone?
Yes. With Remote Control, the session on your computer opens in the Claude app's Code tab, and what it's waiting on stays open until it's answered. With Lowtide, you can also answer in your Slack DM with yourself.
Does my computer need to stay on?
For Remote Control and for Lowtide, yes: the session runs on your computer. Sessions started on claude.ai/code run in the cloud instead, and you can start and follow those from your phone.
Why don't I get a push from Claude Code?
Remote Control has to be on, the Claude app installed with notifications allowed, and “Push when actions required” switched on in /config. Pushes are skipped while you're typing in that terminal, and Focus modes can hold them back.
