The best follow-up reminder apps for Gmail in 2026

Updated

Short answer: On a Mac, Lowtide is our pick: it notices on its own which of your questions went unanswered, by email or Slack, and drafts the follow-up in your voice, free during early access. Elsewhere, start with Gmail’s free nudges (“Suggest emails to follow up on”); Boomerang is the simplest reminder you set yourself, and Superhuman, Fyxer and Inbox Zero also draft the follow-up.

We compared how each one notices that nobody answered, whether it drafts the follow-up, what else it covers, and what it costs, from each product’s own site on October 20, 2026. Lowtide is ours; we’ve tried to be as fair to the others as to it.

Lowtide: our pick on a Mac

Lowtide is the only one here that also catches the questions you asked in Slack. It finds them on its own, keeps them next to the replies you owe and what you promised in meetings, drafts each follow-up in your voice in the same thread, and waits until the day after any date you asked for. It needs a Mac with macOS 26 or later.

Gmail’s nudges: best as a free start

Turn on “Suggest emails to follow up on” in Settings → General → Nudges, and Gmail moves sent emails nobody answered back to the top of your inbox after a few days. It costs nothing and needs no setup, but it only suggests, and a busy inbox can bury the suggestion.

Boomerang: best for a reminder you set yourself

When you send an email, choose to have it come back if nobody replies by a date. It’s precise and inexpensive, and it’s also manual: it only reminds you about emails you remembered to set it on.

SaneBox: best if you also want less noise

SaneBox works with any email provider. Sent emails that get no reply collect in a SaneNoReplies folder, and its main job is moving unimportant mail out of your inbox.

Superhuman, Fyxer and Inbox Zero: best if you want the follow-up written

All three notice emails nobody answered and draft the follow-up. Superhuman is a full email app (drafted follow-ups come with its Business plan); Fyxer works inside Gmail or Outlook and adds a meeting notetaker; Inbox Zero is open source and can be self-hosted.

How do you choose?

Questions people ask

Does Gmail have a follow-up reminder?

Yes. In Gmail on the web, turn on Settings → See all settings → General → Nudges → “Suggest emails to follow up on”. Sent emails that got no reply come back to the top of your inbox after a few days.

How long should I wait before following up?

Two or three working days for a colleague, three to five for someone outside your company, and a day or two before any real deadline. Our guide to following up on an email that got no reply goes into more detail.

Can a follow-up app send follow-ups automatically?

Some can: tools built for outreach, such as Right Inbox’s Sequences, send follow-ups on their own when nobody replies. The apps above remind you or draft the follow-up and leave sending to you, which is safer for anything but outreach.
